Governor Announces New Board Appointments
August 10, 2012, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Parnell today announced appointments to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Board of Directors, Alaska Aerospace Corporation Board of Directors, Board of Marital and Family Therapists, and Alaska Pioneers’ Homes Advisory Board.
Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Board of Directors
Governor Parnell reappointed Barry Collier and Mark Palmer to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) Board of Directors. ASMI is a public-private partnership between the State of Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry established to increase the economic value of our renewable seafood resources.
Collier has been president and chief executive officer of Peter Pan Seafoods, Inc. since 1997, and was vice president of administrative operations from 1989-1997. His career also includes service as an administrative assistant, then president of the Pacific Seafood Processors Association from 1985-1989, two years as executive director of the North Pacific Fishing Vessel Owners’ Association, and two years as executive manager of the Purse Seine Vessel Owners’ Association. Collier earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Puget Sound in 1978. He has served on the ASMI board since 2004, and is reappointed to a seat representing large seafood processors.
Palmer has been president and chief executive officer of Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Inc. since 2005, and has been with the organization since 1984, beginning in the Boise distribution location and eventually rising to various sales and management positions. Palmer earned a bachelor’s degree from Boise State University. He has served on the ASMI Board since 2004, and is reappointed to a seat representing large seafood processors.
Alaska Aerospace Corporation Board of Directors
Governor Parnell reappointed Drue Pearce to the Alaska Aerospace Corporation Board of Directors. The corporation allows Alaska to play a lead role in the exploration and development of space, in enhancing human and economic development, and in providing direction for space-related education and research.
Pearce is the president of Spill Shield Anchorage and a senior policy advisor at Crowell & Moring. From 2006 to 2010, she served as the federal coordinator for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects. Prior to that, Pearce was the senior advisor for Alaska to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior. A longtime Alaska legislator, Pearce served twice as president of the Alaska Senate and also as a legislative ex-officio member of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation Board. She is reappointed as a member representing the private business sector.
Board of Marital and Family Therapists
Governor Parnell appointed Linda King to the Board of Marital and Family Therapists. The board regulates licensing standards, examination of applicants, and disciplinary sanction of marital and family therapists.
King, of Chugiak, is the clinical supervisor and a licensed marital and family therapist at Cornerstone Clinic, where she has served since 2005. She has also worked in private practice, and is the current president of the Alaska Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. King earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She is appointed to a seat reserved for a therapist or counselor.
Alaska Pioneers’ Homes Advisory Board
Governor Parnell appointed Rosemary Hagevig and Bert Hall to the Alaska Pioneers’ Homes Advisory Board. The governor also reappointed Banarsi Lal to the board. The board conducts annual inspections of property and procedures of the Alaska Pioneers' Homes and recommends changes and improvements to the governor.
Hagevig, of Juneau, is recently retired after having served more than a decade as the executive director of Catholic Community Services in Juneau. A former member and president of the Alaska Municipal League and Southeast Conference, she spent nearly 28 years with the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. In addition to her many volunteer activities, Hagevig has served on the Juneau Borough Assembly and the Juneau Borough Planning Commission. She is appointed to a seat reserved for a member of the public.
Hall, of Wasilla, is retired and works as a part-time consultant. He has long been active in civic life, including work as the commissioner of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Alaska liaison for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, director of the Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services, and executive director of the United Way of Anchorage. In addition to his many volunteer activities and association memberships, Hall has served in the U.S. Army, where he received the Outstanding Soldier Award. Hall is appointed to a seat reserved for a member of the public.
Lal spent 24 years with the Fairbanks Native Association before retiring in 2000 as behavioral services director. He has been a public member of the Alaska Commission on Aging since 2000 and is the current chair. By virtue of his membership on the Alaska Commission on Aging, Lal has concurrently served on the Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education since 2005 and as a member of the Pioneers’ Home Advisory Council since 2007. Lal earned a master’s degree in social work from Lucknow University, and a master’s degree in psychology from Agra University; both universities are in India. In 2011, he received an honorary doctorate of law from the University of Alaska Fairbanks for his contributions to the community. He is reappointed to a seat reserved for a member of the public.
